In the everyday rat race, we call life it is easy to become influenced by others in order to feel a sense of belonging. However, once you have done this over a long period of time you begin to lose your own identity and what makes you, well you. We hear all the time how important it is to eat healthy, exercise and get enough rest and while all of these are great ideas we forget to nourish and feed our souls. I have outlined for you the steps that I recommend on how to reconnect with your higher self and feed your soul!

Follow your heart

It is a typical human response to over analyze and over think EVERYTHING. We always want to find the most rational and reasonable route, which means we tend to talk ourselves out of the things that truly make us feel inspired. In order to feed your soul you must first begin to follow your heart. When we lead with our hearts instead of our heads, we find more enjoyment in what we do, we feel fulfilled, we feel inspired and most of all we begin to follow our true soul path.

Mindfully Present

In all the chaos we have in our world it is easy to get caught up in to-do lists, what we need to do tomorrow, what happened yesterday etc. When we stop focusing on the exact moment we are in, we slowly begin to lose the true meaning of life. When you find yourself getting caught up about something that has happened or needs to happen, take a moment to take a deep breath and focus on what is happening right now. What do the tree’s look like, look at your child’s smile, hear the laughter of the people around you and truly sink into this moment. This is what being mindfully present looks like. It is where you can be grateful for the moment that you have and that nothing else in the past or the future is nearly as important as this particular moment. Step outside your comfort zone

Pushing our personal boundaries can feel really uncomfortable because the human part of us really likes the predictable. We feel that if we know the outcome of a particular situation that we have this false sense of control. But let me tell you- growth does not happen on the sidelines, it happens in the arena. You have to be willing to push your comfort zone in order to get the growth that nourishes your soul. How do you know where to start pushing your comfort zone? If something excites you and terrifies you at the same time, that is a great indication that you should do it!

Meditation

In just about everything on my blog, I talk about the benefits of meditation because it really is that important! Prayer is where we talk to God or a higher power and meditation is where we receive the answers. Your body talks to you as well, and if you spend 5 minutes listening in meditation you will probably find some of the answers to what you need. Now, I hear all the time ‘I don’t have any extra time to meditate in my crazy schedule.’ My answer is always “Yes you do”! Meditation does not need to be sitting on the floor criss-cross applesauce (as my 5-year-old calls it) with your eyes closed. Meditation is anytime you spend with yourself in quiet reflection. Running without headphones, talking a silent walk, a quiet car ride during your commute-there is always a time and place where you can fit this in! “Quiet the mind and the soul will speak.”- Buddha

Eating to feed the soul and the body

I am sure that you have heard the saying, “eat the rainbow'”. While this sage piece of advice is absolutely true, have you ever wondered why?
It is no coincidence that the colors that we associate with our Chakras are colors of the rainbow and you are told to eat foods associated with these colors.
When we have blockages in specific Chakras, you can help move the blockage not only through spiritual work, but the foods you eat! Blockages in each Chakra manifest symptoms in our health which are often treated by doctors with a pill instead of a change in diet!
Here are the different Chakras and the foods that are associated for optimum health:
⚪ Crown Chakra- This Chakra is mostly nourished by a connection with the divine. Fasting is a common practice to work on blockages in this area from a food stand point.
💜Third Eye- Blue and purple foods like blueberries, purple grapes, plums, purple cabbage, lavender, purple onions and eggplant
🔵 Throat Chakra- Think liquids with this Chakra. Water, fresh juices, broth and tea. Sea vegetables like seaweed, kelp, kombu and dulse are also great for this area!
💚 Heart Chakra- All things green! Broccoli, kale, spinach, swiss chard, dandelion greens, parsley, peas, cilantro, asparagus, zucchini, celery, green tea, basil, sage, thyme
🌕 Solar Plexus- Everything yellow! Lemon, sunflower seeds, chamomile, chick peas, mustard, pears, cumin, tumeric, pineapple and bananas.
🧡Sacral Chakra- Think orange! Cantaloupe, oranges, mangoes, peaches, pumpkin, butternut squash, almonds, yams, honey, cinnamon, ginger, carrots, apricots, nectarines and tangerines.
🔴 Root Chakra- Root veggies like potatoes, beets, parsnips, radishes, red onion, garlic and turnips. Red fruits, veggies and spices are also important. Apples, cherries, red peppers, watermelon, pomegranate, red beans, hot paprika, cayenne pepper, cranberries, pink grapefruit, kidney beans and raspberries.

Eat from each of these areas daily to help maintain balanced health on both the physical and spiritual levels! This way you can fuel your body while you feed your soul.

Surroundings

The soul needs positive surroundings in order to thrive. I am sure by now you have heard of the Law of Attraction in some way. Essentially, what the Law of Attraction states is that at whatever vibrational level you are at, are the types of things that you attract into your life. So, if you are constantly speaking negatively, surrounding yourself with toxic people, watching and listening to negative things-guess what? You are at low vibration and nothing really great is going to come into your life. If you begin to change the way you speak to yourself and about others in a more positive manner, you surround yourself with positive and uplifting people, you start watching and listening to positive things- you are now at a higher vibration and will bring positive things into your life! Exiting, right?!

These little changes can have a huge impact on your mental, physical and spiritual health. When we aim to nourish our souls everything else falls in line! (Law of Attraction at work again!) You can start slowly implementing or be like me and jump right in! (I am known for going full speed ahead when I set my mind on anything!) But I will guarantee you that you feel monumental change in your life once these tips become a part of your daily life!
